July 30, 2004

Very soon 50,000 delegates, alternates, party officials, members of the media and convention guests will travel to New York for the Republican National Convention Aug. 30 - Sept. 2, 2004 at Madison Square Garden.

All 135 of Georgia's Delegates and Alternates to our Republican National Convention are busily preparing for the big trip to the Big Apple to play an important role in the convention process. Convention delegates will have the pleasure of nominating President George W. Bush for reelection as President and Dick Cheney as Vice President of the United States. What an awesome responsibility!!  This will be the first National Convention for some of us in the delegation, so we are especially excited about the big event. Our members are also looking forward to the social and entertainment events planned for us in New York during the convention off hours.

The Georgia delegation is composed of a diverse group of party and community leaders. Over half of the members of the delegation are women, and all ages are well represented. The delegation includes a wide range of minorities, including Willie Talton, who is running unopposed for State House, guaranteeing the first African-American Republican in the Georgia General Assembly in over 130 years. The delegation elected Governor Sonny Perdue as the General Chairman. As you know, Governor Perdue is the first Republican Governor of Georgia since Reconstruction. Georgia Republican Party Chairman Alec Poitevint will serve as Chairman of the delegation.

Many in our group have answered the call to participate in the project: Compassion Across America!  In Georgia this is being organized by Linda Parker, Georgia GOP Secretary and Delegate to the convention. Many thanks to Sue Everhart, Rick Richardson and others at  the GA GOP Headquarters for working tirelessly to arrange our housing at the hotel and to prepare our photo identification, delegate packets and many other essential details.

Recently I was appointed the Georgia Daily Diary Keeper to make notes during the convention session, take tons of digital photos and e-mail daily during the convention to be posted on the National Convention web site. Click here to view this diary page on the Convention web site. In addition to posting on that web site, plans are under way to also post directly from New York to the GA 10th District web site and the Greater Gwinnett Republican women's site where I serve as webmaster.

Wesley Clark, Delegate from the 10th District who lives in Gainesville, plans on e-mailing a daily diary directly to the Gainesville Times Newspaper each day. Plans are also underway to e-mail directly to some other media outlets. More on this later. These web postings and press releases will include many candid digital photos of our Georgia delegates/alternates at work and at play during the convention.

More later  -- live from the Convention. Next edition will be August 30.

    Church Services in New York

All Delegates, Alternates and Guest,

Several of you have inquired about Church Services in New York.  Trinity Church where George Washington worshipped and Alexander Hamilton is buried is very near to the Ritz Carlton. They have a 9AM service on Sunday.

Those of you interested in attending church on Sunday prior to our brunch please visit their web site for further information.

This is not a group event, just giving information for anyone interested.
