Message from
Senator Eric Johnson

GA Senate President Pro Tempore

2 May 2008
Senator Renee Unterman wanted to share this information that the
Senate President Pro-Tem sent her today.

Statement on the 2008 Georgia Campaigns

“I am pleased that the State Senate will clearly remain Republican. In a year that is supposed to be unfavorable for Republicans, we will not lose a single seat and may even gain one.

“Republicans have delivered change that matters to mainstream Georgians. We have created jobs. We have delivered education reform, expanded choice, and raised test scores. Democrats have defended failing schools and excused incompetent school boards. Republicans have fought illegal immigration and sexual predators. Democrats have defended the rights of criminals over their victims and tried to end the death penalty. Republicans have cut taxes and controlled spending. Democrats in Georgia demand higher spending and more taxes. Republicans have fought for better health care at lower costs over the objection of Georgia Democrats.

“We respect the individual and trust the market place. They look to the government to solve every problem with a program. We believe that individuals thrive when they are rooted in a strong value system that is imparted through the family, church, or other institutions of civil society. We believe in empowerment and they believe in entitlement.

“This election, Georgia Republicans will also stand proudly with Senator John McCain, a war hero and an independent thinker who loves our country and its people. Georgia Democrats will have to defend the elitist views of Senator Barak Obama and his anti-American mentors and terrorist friends. From the top of the ticket to the bottom, two sets of values will be offered. One is grounded in faith in the individual. The other is based on faith in government. I know how this will turn out.”
