It's all semantics in the District 106 race 8/7/05
"There's only one politician in the House District 106 race.
At least, that's how two of the candidates are spinning it.
During a forum hosted by the Greater Gwinnett Republican Women last week, both Melvin Everson and Garry Rhodes cast off the title.
"I'm not a politician. I'm your neighbor," Rhodes said at least three times during the one-hour event." Read more. . .
Eminent domain hot topic at House District 106 forum
by Camie Young 8/5/05
"New London, Conn., came up more during a forum for House District 106 candidates than Snellville, Ga.
With the special election to replace Phyllis Miller in the General Assembly coming just a few months after the Supreme Court
made a controversial ruling about the New England town’s right
to condemn property to increase the tax digest, eminent domain was one of the top thoughts of the three men who will be on the ballot Aug. 30. " Read more. . .

4New Congressional District Map Clears Hurdle
A new congressional district map was approved by the Senate
Reapportionment Committee last week, moving the plan closer to a vote on the floor. The plan would keep counties whole and put communities of interest back together. In 2001, Democrats gerrymandered our state for purely partisan purposes. Read more
from Senator Bill Stephens.

Adopt a Platoon GGRW Project
At our last meeting I told you about applying for the “Adopt A Platoon” program. I received a call this evening that the GGRW has been accepted!!!!
Within four weeks, we will receive the names of 20 soldiers who need a pen pal. I’m sure each of you would like to write to at least one soldier or maybe two. Upon receipt of these names, I will contact you to see if you wish to participate. After developing a relationship with our troops, we may even wish to send packages to them. More on this later. -- Peg Murray
