Statement On Georgia Governor's Race
by Mike Huckabee on Wednesday, August 11, 2010
Huck PAC and I want to congratulate Nathan Deal on a fantastic victory last night. There is no question that Nathan was greatly helped by the dedicated members of Team Huck and all of the other volunteers.
It's interesting to note that in the Governor's race, Huck PAC made about 3,000 calls on behalf of Deal and 1,000 of those calls went directly in into Gwinnett County. Many of the political pundits now see what I witnessed firsthand in 2008 - that hardworking Team Huck volunteers make a real positive difference and affect the outcome of an election.
Despite entering the run-off with a double-digit deficit, and being written off, Nathan and his team were able to close the largest vote gap in Georgia primary election history and finish in first in the runoff.
Like many across the country, I had been watching the Governors race for some time; and when called up by the dedicated Huck PAC Team - we decided to put the power of Huck PAC and our grassroots organization behind Nathan. Today, I offer my sincere congratulations to him, and I know Nathan will serve Georgia well.
Unfortunately, sometimes an election doesn't turn out like you want - I know from experience. However, it's always wonderful to see a candidate concede with class, especially in such a close contest. I applaud Karen Handel for doing just that. She had a first class team behind her campaign and she ran a wonderful race. In fact, Ms. Handel mentioned in her concession speech that now is the time for all of Georgia to come together and make sure that Nathan Deal is Georgia's next Governor, and I couldn't agree more.
Please join me in congratulating Nathan Deal on running a great race and let's push forward to a victory in November.
