GGRW President's Message

It has been a privilege and honor to serve GGRW for the past two years as president.  I was very proud that we achieved the diamond award once again for service to our fellow Republicans. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to serve you, and I look forward to continue to grow our club.

If every member of our club brought in just one new member, we would have a fantastic number of women working tirelessly to elect quality Republicans for all offices in 2008 -- including our next President of the U.S. We must see to it that Hillary is not our first woman president!!!!

    Republican Women Convention 2007

Your are invited to view our photo web page made at the recent GA Federation of Republican Women Convention at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia Hotel Perimeter in Atlanta on October 12 and 13.  This was the 50th anniversary of the GA Federation which was formed in January of 1957. Republican women representing 31 clubs came from across the state to celebrate this historical event.  Ten former Federation Presidents were honored at a special reception on Friday evening. Click here to view photo page of this event.

The Greater Gwinnett Republican Women's Club was represented at the recent convention by Tegwen Beaudreau, GGRW President; Sara Snyder, GFRW Secretary; Peg Murray, GGRW Secretary; and Bettye Chambers, GGRW Webmaster

FEDERATION HISTORY

The Georgia Federation affiliated with the NFRW in 1957. Following the Republican National Convention in 1956, Mrs. Harold McGeorge of Florida, regional director for the NFRW, and Margaret Twiggs, vice chairman of the Georgia Republican State Committee, toured the state organizing the first Republican women's clubs in Atlanta, Macon, Rome, Americus and Blue Ridge. When General Eisenhower carried Richmond County, the Republican women were given the credit. The Georgia Federation's first convention was held in Augusta in January 1957, and President Eisenhower wired his congratulations. One of the state's leading newspapers, The Atlanta Constitution, said, "The two-party system in Georgia gained momentum Monday when a state-wide organization of Republican Women was formed in Augusta."

The Georgia Federation's first convention was held in Augusta in January 1957. GFRW conventions are held every two years in various parts of the state.

§
Honorary Senator Program by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle

The Honorary Senator program is an effort by Cagle to recognize and reward outstanding Georgia citizens who are involved in their community and the political process. Honorary Senators are invited to the State Capitol to witness the legislative process when the Senate is in session and meet with Lt. Governor Cagle. This award was recently given to GGRW member, Bettye Chambers, of Buford.

“It was an honor to welcome Bettye Chambers to the Capitol today. She is a wonderful example of a Georgian who serves others by volunteering her time and talents, and I was pleased to visit with her,” Cagle said. Read more and view photos.
