Speakers on for On the Road Again
Tuesday, June 24, 2008. Channel 2 has now found our favorite Marathon Station
Read Story and watch video. Marathon's prices are always lower than the Shell station mentioned in this article. On June 20 when I was going around making photos of gas price signs in the area, the owner of the Shell station on Buford Dam Road came charging out of the building and chastised me for making photos of his price sign. He was obviously very upset with me. Hmmm, guess he finally caught on to the fact that a little publicity can bring in more business. Seems he is now EAGER to talk to the media. Naturally, our family no longer does business at the Shell station since we can get gas cheaper just down the road at the Marathon Station, AND the people there are very courteous. The ones I have talked to at the Marathon appear to be native born and only speak English.

You are not going to believe these gas prices in Buford, GA. It appears that we have a little gas war going on between a couple of gas stations in the Peachtree Industrial/Shadburn Ferry and Buford Dam Road area. The new Marathon Station at the corner of Peachtree Industrial and Shadburn Ferry has prices that we have not seen in some time -- $3.79 off and on for a few weeks. On June 20, I filled up at $3.49. About an hour later it went down to $3.45.
This station was formerly a Citgo Station which was openly boycotted by the residents following all of the publicity about Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez's ownership of Citgo. It was extremely rare to see even one car filling up when it carried the Citgo label.

Marathon bought out the station and moved in a couple of months ago, and the war has been on. When their prices go down to $3.79 or lower, the car lines really build up in a hurry! This new guy has more business than you can imagine. He is a native born plain old American who speaks strictly English, is very friendly and can relate to his customers.
