Budget Control Act of 2011 -- D.C. Vote
8/2/11 - U.S. House of Representatives voted 269-161 in favor of passing the Budget Control Act of 2011. The bigger story, however, was the divide among both the Republican and Democratic caucus’ in the House. Republicans approved the measure by a 174-66 margin, while the Democrats were evenly split at 95 in favor of the legislation and 95 opposed. For the final House Roll Call, click here.
How they voted: In Georgia, the numbers tell a different story. GAGOP Representatives Broun, Gingrey, Graves, Kingston, Scott and Westmoreland all voted against the measure, while Representatives Price and Woodall voted in favor. Four of Georgia’s Democratic Reps. voted for the bill, while John Lewis broke-step with his colleagues and voted against the legislation. In the Senate Chambliss voted NO and Isakson voted YES. (Yes, Chambliss comes up for re-election before Isakson. ;- )Redistricting - The Georgia General Assembly will reconvene on August 15th for a special session to address legislative and congressional redistricting. Unlike when the Democrats controlled the process a decade ago, Georgia’s Republican leadership is working tirelessly to draw fair, equal maps that look past party politics and towards meeting our constitutional mandate of “one person, one vote” for all Georgians. -- GA GOP
