Dear DiaryThe Georgia GOP gang is all here at the beautiful Ritz-Carlton on Saturday and eager to participate in the Convention events of the next four days. My complaints about the high cost of the rooms faded away when I stepped into my room on Saturday afternoon and looked at the breathtaking view of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. These photos on left were taken from the window of my room.
Thanks, Carolyn Meadows, for selecting this stunning site.
Sunday morning began with delegates, alternates and guests going through the registration process. We all picked up packets and convention passes and then listened to briefings by our Georgia GOP Chairman Alec Poitevint (left: see photo of Alec addressing the delegation on Sunday morning). Also addressing the delegation was our own Georgia U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss

Right: Delegate Kathie Miller and Alternate Ben Satterfield of Gwinnett County, Georgia National Committeewoman elect and Delegate Linda Herren, Georgia
GOP Parliamentarian John White and Georgia National Committeewoman and Delegate Carolyn Meadows -- all enjoying the delicious brunch and the gathering
of the Georgia delegation on Sunday morning at the Ritz-Carlton.
Left: More of Georgia's happy delegates at the Sunday brunch:
Delegates Jean Studdard, Randy Evans, and Marilyn Watts. Randy is the Legal Counsel for the GA GOP.
Attending our Sunday Brunch at the Ritz-Carlton were former Congressman
Bob Barr and Gary Aldrich. Gary is the former FBI agent assigned to the
White House during the Clinton years. He wrote the best selling book,
Unlimited Access, which told of his experiences with the Clintons. Gary
is now founder and President of the Patrick Henry Center for Individual Liberty.
Following the brunch our Georgia delegation was off to the Broadway musical, Beauty and the Beast. Here we are lined up and waiting to enter the beautiful Lunt Fantanne famous theater. The performance was unforgettable!
New York's finest were everywhere to guide us from the
buses to the entrance of the theater on Sunday afternoon.
They are without a doubt the best policemen on the face
of the universe! Right: One of the NYPD's finest poses
for a photo with me. Please note his thumbs up. He told
us that he is supposed to be neutral, but he is not. ;- )
On the bus trip back to our hotel we were privileged to visit with (left) Ann Printon, Special Projects Manager for Rudy Giuliani Partners. She is the Convention Ambassador for the Georgia delegation and has gone all out to
help us in many ways. She has worked closely with former Mayor Giuliani
for many years. How fortunate we are to have her working with the Georgia delegation!
Behind Ann on the bus are the Austins of Carrollton
How exciting to be in New York City!
On Monday morning we entered the Convention Hall at Madison Square Garden f
or the first time
to view the awesome sight of all the delegates and alternates, the stage, the rousing music, entertainers, and welcoming addresses followed by the
beginning of the roll call of the states.
Alternate delegates were visited in their bleacher area by Paul Benneke who issued temporary delegate passes so each alternate could spend at least 30 minutes on the floor in the delegate section during the Monday morning session. Many thanks to Paul for all of his hard work on this event.
Left: Ben Satterfield, Paul Bennecke, and John Marsh.
8/29/04. Alternate Delegate Doug Grammer (center) with New
York City Guardian Angels before patrol. Doug has been a
member of this group in the past.
On Monday night we look forward to hearing from Rudy Giuliani and John McCain
More on Tuesday as we attend the Governor's Tribute to the Georgia Delegation at 5:30 and the evening session of the convention beginning at 7:30.
The chant of the day is "Four More Years!"
Please visit us again tomorrow for more photos and news from the Georgia delegation
