Bettye Chambers' Daily Diary Pre-convention - Mon - Tues - Wed -Thurs - Thurs Night Finale -
Tuesday, August 31, 2004 -- 3:00 p.m.
Dear Diary
The first day of the convention concluded Monday night with the dynamic and energizing blockbuster speech by New York's great former Mayor Rudy Giuliani. His support of George W. Bush for reelection was very profound. Be sure to read the text of his greatest speech ever. In addition to the convention chant, "Four More Years," Monday night adde
d another one, "Rudy, Rudy, Rudy!!" Many hand made RUDY signs were waved endlessly during the many applause segments. Everyone agreed that he was truly the star of the night. Too bad that some of our network TV stations did not see fit to carry it live.
Read Senator McCain's great speech earlier in the evening.
Click on thumbnail photos to enlarge The Monday night session was privileged to listen to the National Anthem performed vocally by Olivia Lalewicz of Detroit -- a most talented 13 year old young lady. The States Roll Call was continued -- Maine through Michigan. The next session will begin with New Jersey on Tuesday evening. The Honorable J. Dennis Hastert, who was elected earlier as the Permanent Convention Chairman, made some introductory remarks. The entertainment was fantastic and included Dexter Freebish, Ron Silver (actor), A USO Patriotic Medley from the Christ Tabernacle Choir, Darryl Worley, and Danny Rodriguez. A special remembrance to 9-11 was addressed by Bernard Kerik, Former Police Commissioner of New York City and Robert Khuzami, Former Assistant U.S. Attorney for New York, NY. Remarks and a Tribute to Medial of Honor Recipients was given by Jason Schorn and Angie Harmon. Several widows of 9-11 victims spoke and gave their moving accounts of the event.
"We Salute our Troops" was a major theme of the evening with signs prominently displayed by our delegates on the floor.
The Alternate Delegate section of the Georgia delegation was lively, upbeat, and so happy to be a part of this process. These photos show their great approval of the evening's major speeches by Senator John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. They definitely agreed with the speakers' strong words of support for President Bush.
